Welcome to Episode 98 of Good Will Hunters brought to you by Good Will Media. Our guest today is Sofia Shakil.
This is the second in our two part series on the Asia Foundation, so if you haven’t listened to last weeks episode with Sam Chittick, I suggest you do so now.
Sofia is The Asia Foundation’s country representative in Pakistan. She is an experienced policy economist, with nearly 25 years of experience in the development sector, with a focus on human development, public sector policy, and governance reform. She has held several positions with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and international NGOs.
In this episode we discuss the development challenges facing Pakistan, including on governance, education and gender equality. In particular we discuss the impact of Australia ending it’s bilateral aid program to Pakistan, and in doing so, withdrawing vital funding for the education of girls. We discuss the impact of Covid-19 on Pakistan’s development, inclluding how the Asia Foundation will continue to partner with the private sector to achieve development outcomes.
